CUSD Classified Workers Ratify
First Teamster Contract
The over 600 classified workers of Compton Unified School District voted to accept their first Teamster contract with 95% voting in favor of ratification on Thursday, June 29, 2017.
The three-year agreement ends years of stagnant wages with guaranteed increases and significantly drops the cost of healthcare allowing hundreds of new members to obtain health coverage for the first time while saving others thousands of dollars.
“We are proud to have an agreement that will benefit all our Compton Unified School District members and their families,” said Raymond Whitmer, Teamsters Local 911 Secretary-Treasurer. “It was a tough road but the members of the Compton Unified School District stood strong and never gave up.”
“Seeing the overwhelming support by our members validates the countless hours and hard work given by my colleagues and the staff of Teamsters Local 911,” said Maria Zendeja, CUSD Clerk. “This is a great first step in making a better workplace for us all.”
“We deserve respect and fairness in the workplace,” said Ladonnia Swinton, CUSD IT Help Desk Technician. “I believe we have found it with the Teamsters.”
Congratulation to all of the workers who helped make this historic day a reality.
